When life changes the roses

Roses are red
but sometimes they're not
Sometimes life changes
and flowers don’t bloom
the way you once thought
instead your roses are
an unusual shade of white
Are the roses now ugly
because they are not as bright
White roses are just
as beautiful as the red
So why do you grumble
about their arbitrary uniqueness
This misfortune with the flowers
is all in your head
The new shade holds beauty within itself
It’s your small minded perspective
The barricaded doors in your mind
That cause the white to be defective
To you, who only accepts roses of one kind
When life hands out it’s cards
in an unexpected fashion
Or perhaps when the cards
are different than you imagined
Why must you throw a fit
about the miniscule imperfections
Your life isn’t over and ending,
or being thrown amiss
Accept the changes
as your life moves in new directions
of what could have been
If it only had been
Accept all the irregular experiences
Apart from the predictability of life
It’s the white apart from the red
That makes existence divine
Roses are red,
but sometimes they're not
What happens when life
takes an unexpected turn
When the flowers don’t bloom
the way you once thought
Will you open up your mind
and embrace the change
Or will you just search for red roses
Leaving all the other
beautifully unique
experiences
behind
In a vain, never-ending search for something better
When life has already covertly handed you the best
